How to Correctly Measure Your Refrigerator Seal – The Ultimate Step-by-Step Guide

You've determined that your refrigerator seal needs to be replaced, but you're not sure how to get the exact measurements? Don't worry! This is our customers' most frequently asked question, and it's easier than you think.

A precisely fitted seal is essential for an efficient refrigerator. With this simple step-by-step guide, we'll make sure you get the perfect measurements for your new, custom-made seal.

What You'll Need – Preparation

Before you start, get these three things ready:

  • A rigid tape measure: A folding ruler or a sturdy tape measure works best. A flexible sewing tape measure can distort the results.

  • Pen and paper: To write down the measurements right away.

  • Your smartphone: To take a photo of the seal's profile.

3 Steps to the Right Measurement

To determine the correct measurements, we always measure the outer dimension of the seal – that is, from the outermost edge to the outermost edge of the rubber seal.

Step 1: Measure the Height

Take your tape measure and measure the vertical side of the seal. Place the tape at the outer top corner of the seal and run it straight down to the outer bottom corner.

Important: Make sure you only measure the rubber itself, not the refrigerator door or the groove the seal sits in.

Write down this measurement as "Height".

Step 2: Measure the Width

Repeat the process for the horizontal side. Measure from the outer left corner of the seal to the outer right corner.

Here too, make sure to keep the tape measure taut and only measure the rubber.

Write down this measurement as "Width".

Step 3: Determine the Profile

Besides the measurements, the shape of the seal (the profile) is crucial. It's simple: pull the seal out of the door groove at one small spot and use your smartphone to take a sharp photo of the cross-section. Using this image, we can identify the right profile for you.

Our tip: Always double-check your measurements to avoid transposed digits.

The Most Common Mistakes (and How to Avoid Them)

  • Wrong: Measuring the entire refrigerator door.

    • Right: Always measure only the outer dimension of the rubber seal.

  • Wrong: Measuring in the middle of the seal.

    • Right: Always measure from the outermost corner to the outermost corner to get the maximum measurement.

  • Wrong: Using a stretchy tape measure.

    • Right: Use a rigid tape measure or a folding ruler to get precise values.
